You Can Go Home Again

Thomas Wolfe was wrong. I'm home.

Here are some stats from the trip:

10744 Miles
16 States
$1759.88 - gas

23.8 gigs shot (That's about 25 rolls of film or 900 shots)
120 photos worth showing.  Not bad, especially when you consider that most are panos encompassing 10 - 20 individual pics.

The dog is still greeting me.
Here's the dog:

Chewy

I like to get one GREAT shot from a trip and a bunch of good ones. I'm really happy with the work I did on this one. Panoramas have changed my life. They make me think more and try stuff I couldn't do any other way.

Look at this:

It was taken at sunrise in Idaho on my way home.  I don't think I could fit these elements into the constraints of a 35mm frame.  I think it would be too boring.  The length of the composition mimics the lazy morning feeling.

The important thing about using any new lens, gizmo or technique is to use it rather than letting it use you.   You can't use it just for the sake of the game.  Instead, the real juice is to use it when it can render something that couldn't be rendered without it.  Does that make sense?

Look at these two:

I think that they work only because they're panos.  You need to make the image fit the canvas.  With panos we can control the dimensions of the canvas.  What a kick!!

OK - that's all the rambling I have.  Now that I'm home we can get into more technique and stuff if you want.  Gimme some feedback.  Lemmeknow what you want me to rant about.
